Our Turkeys

Now here is a bird I never thought I would get attached to, with all the red skin around their face I initially thought they were ugly.

But then came Bob the turkey and he won me over. Following me all around the field gobbling. They make such good pets. You can also tell what they are thinking by the colour their head and throat. When a male turkey is excited his head will turn blue, where as if he is stressed or aggressive it will be bright red and if it turns white he is relaxed/passive.

Mine have also been surprisingly good layers, with a speckled unusual shaped egg, that tastes very similar to a hens eggs.

I have always found turkeys to be a loyal bird to one person, they don’t like it much with strangers around and can make a racket.

We only keep the one breed at the moment but watch this space !!
