Poultry Breeds - The Orpington
The Orpington is a gentle giant. The size of this bird appeals to a lot of poutry breeders and they come in many attractive colours. The breed used to be a good all purpose bird (both meat and eggs) but was transformed into more of a show bird. The Orpington has masses of soft, brightly coloured feathers and a docile temprament. This breed is available in both large fowl and bantam. The standard colours for showing are - Black, White, Buff and Blue. Other colours are for breeding and pleasure. Orpingtons lay between 110 - 160 eggs per year, they are light brown to tinted white. Please see the colours I breed below.

Bloodline information:
Buff Orpington - This pair are about 9 months old and are both bred by David Pownall (one of the top breeders of Orpingtons in the UK), I have two pullets growing on that will run with this pair that are from Will Burdetts bloodline and a pullet from David Pownalls bloodline. These should make a great combination for Exhibition birds.
Crele Orpington - This pair are beautiful, they were bred by David Pownall. The cockerel is about a year and a half old and the pullet is about 9 months. This is a very interesting colour for someone who wants some birds that will stand out in the crowd.
Blue Orpingtons - I have two pens of blues. One pen is a combination of a David Pownall cockerel, my own bred hens and a Fiona Stobinski's hen. The other breeding pen is a breeding line direct form Fiona, one of the hens was shown at the Federation show 2008 so you may have seen it there.
Black Orpington Bantams - I have two pens of Black Orpington bantams, this first is a combination of a Fiona Stobinski cockerel and 2 David Pownall pullets. The second is a David Pownall cockerel with two of my own bred pullets.
White Orpingtons - I have not set my breeding pen up for the White Orpington's yet as they are just maturing. I have a combination of David Pownall, Precilla Middleton and my own bred birds. I am waiting to see them matured to choose the best combination.
